Idol group SS501, managed by DSP Entertainment, will continue their activities until the end of June. However, the members’ contracts will be expiring on June 7, 2010. So why are the boys planning on continuing their work?
SS501 plans on releasing a mini-album on the 28th of June and promoting the album at about the same time. The contract expiration, however, will not be affecting their promotions. This move has made many wonder why SS501’s activities are “filled with strangeness.”
DSP’s Choi SungPil has said on May 17th:
“Whether Kim HyunJoong as well as all the rest of the members were to re-contract or not, it (the contract expiration) will be postponed to end of June after they finish with their album activities. There is absolutely no problem on their album activities. Our Company has considered and prepared to compensate them for the activities done after their contract expiration on 7-June.”
SS501 chose to continue their activities because of the promise that they made to their fans. While SS501 was overseas, they promised their fans in Korea that at the end of last year, “We will have our activities for our Korean fans with our new album.” The CEO of DSP is also currently suffering from an illness, due to this, the members and the company have mutually decided not to rush the contract renewal process.
So far, SS501 plans on shooting their new MV on May 19th in GyunbGi-do. Their new album is set to be released on May 28th. The band is also set to start promoting 3 weeks after their comeback on KBS 2TV’s Music Bank on June 4th. They also plan to attend the Dream Concert on the 22nd of May which is being held as Seoul SangAm-dong World Cup Stadium. SS501’s leader, Kim HyunJoong’s injuries, which he received from a car accident on May 12th, will not be delaying SS501’s activities.
